Yes,
While I’ve done some cam motion tracking experiments in the past, to superimpose 3d animations on top of real life footage, this augmented reality stuff is killing me, I like it a lot. A few months ago I never once heard of the terminology “Augmented reality” while right now it is very much hot and happening. There are applications like Layar (http://layar.com) which brings this technology via the mobile platforms (Android and iPhone) to the masses, today I created a more modest application that works with the flash FLAR framework. In order to do some 3d superimposing over a webcam view you need some kind of tracking information. In this case you don’t have a compass, gps or tilting sensor so we use a tracking marker that is optically recognized, so what you have to do is hold this marker in front of your webcam and this marker is used to calculate a transform matrix for your 3d object. Well sort of anyway, just like this blog, the game is put live but in silence. No-one knows about it, but people will find it because google already knows about this blog and it’s only a matter of time that this game will generate heaps of traffic!
The game is becoming more and more playable, right now we are testing the game-play, playing & sitting next to each other and that’s a lot of fun. I’m not sure if this fun factor remains the same if you play it in different physical locations where you really can’t see each other. The game is turn based and there is a moment that you’re actually sit and wait until the movement of your opponent starts to play back and you’re up, to do your stuff. In this waiting-time you are able to chat a little and get your opponent out of his/her concentration. Anyway it won’t take long until the game is released here on fullscreen.nl and I would like to invite you all to give it a shot.
As you can see, we created an header that is basically a cropped out image, in order to do this we edited the file that already comes with the wordpress system and is being used as you
